Entries were displayed in area businesses prior to the contest which culminated in a People’s Choice judging at the Auditorium. Entries were judged in three age group categories. Winner in the ”under 18” age group was Erik Johnson of Valley City with a pastel entitled “Bridge on a Sunny Day”. Winner in the “18-65” age group was Kathy Burchill of Luverne with a unique entry featuring a baptismal romper and blanket constructed from an old family wedding dress. Burchill’s entry was named ”Fine Fibers – Bridging the Past and the Future”. Winner in the “over 65” age group was Marjory Welken of Valley City with a tapestry wall hanging featuring an antique doll head and many old buttons. Welken named her entry “Queen of the Buttons”.
The council would like to thank all participants who entered the contest as well as Sheyenne Printing, Valley Paint and Glass, Valley Office Works, Prairie Frame Shop, and Quilted Ceiling for their support and displaying the entries in their stores
